So I've been starting a new project bow that a found a little time. I am "sprucing up" the 70 oly a little to have a bit of fun with.
Last winter I already got the 292 i was running in it fixed up with new gaskets and higher compression (guiness beer can) head gasket etc
I've also decided to use an F3 pipe as an expansion pipe for it. No idea how it will affect the performance, but worth the effort just for the different sound I'll get. Need to figure out a muffler too.
I am putting an early 70s aluminum case on it, and just got started with it. Had to cut the tunnel a little do the base would sit nice against the side of the tunnel. Will worry about closing the hole below after.
Next on the big agenda is finding a slider setup that I can adapt to it. I have a 121" 1" lug track that I hope I can make work. Still no idea which skid I should plan to use. Trial and error I guess for now.
I'll get some pics soon.

Just get some rubber belt guard material from Wahl Brothers Racing and rivet it to the tunnel bottom after you clearance the tunnel for the later model chain case. If you want to change the gear ratio, drill out the pop rivets and swap them out.

What track are you using under there Vince? Did you find 1.97 pitch x 121?

Hey Grant the one I found was a Kimpex Agressor that is a 121 and has 1" lugs. I hope they aren't too big. I expect I will have to get the smallest involute sprockets I can find - 7 tooth? As long as they will fit within the front of the tunnel I'm good to go. The track was on a Polaris but is the same as later 90's doo tracks. I'll find the number to confirm. Few lugs missing but will be fine for this thing. Part number is 04-948-10K, which is from about 1998. Its a 2.52" pitch...

You guys are amazing. These modifications are beyond me. I just hold my breath and hope the heck I can get it the way it was built in the first place. Good luck with this awesome project.

A Poo track under a Doo! Does this make it a poo-doo? I think they are 2.52 pitch. I believe the sprockets can be had but it will be interesting to resolve what axle/axle length is needed to mount them on. I've brought home several hex axles from sledarama over the years but that's as far as I have taken my venture into using the 2.52 track which seem to be plentiful and cheap compared to decent 1.97 anymore. The axles I have are too long so will need to be cut and the cut end machined to receive the bearing. But if you have access to a lathe, could be a fairly straight forward endeavour.

No Poo-Doo here! I can sleep at night knowing that although it would fit all 4 makes of sleds at the time... it was the same sneaker the F-chassis sleds wore 😁.
Ya the axle is going to have to be a hex shaft. I have one from a later citation that I hope to use, but it's 1.125". I might need to find a 1" hex.. ? And it's rusty so moving sprockets on and off will probably be a major pain.
Yup it will be longer than the single cyl axle it had but we recently got a lathe at work. So if all goes to plan I can turn it down just a little to make one work.

Ha! You aren't kidding. But like you said I love trying something new. I've never tried to modify a sled this much at all. Hope it's as fun to ride as it is to make.

OLYMAN LIKE WHAT YOUR DOOING BUT I WOULD PUT A HEAT SHEID AROUND THE MUFFLER BY THE FILLER PIPE. GAS ON A HOT MUFFLER MIGHT GET INTERESTING !! YOU COULD ALSO USE SOME STEAM PIPE INSULATION. IT IS WHITE AND LIKE COTTON. WOOD STOVE OR PELLET PLACE SHOULD HAVE IT. YOU COULD PUT IT BETWEEN THE SHEILD AND PIPE. JUST MY TWO CENTS
