So after about 9 years of owning this sled, I have finally completed the restoration. What's the rush, right? I brought the sled home in 2011 if I remember correctly, I got it running and immediately torn it down completely. Worked hard on it at first, but then life got in the way and my progress petered-out. About two years ago I got more serious about getting it done and after hundreds of hours (a lot of them just staring a stuff ) it is done. This time of the year is awesome with the weather turning colder so hopefully you guys will enjoy this topic and it will get your Vintage Doo juices flowing. I would like to thank some of the guys on this site (and others) for the help with parts, some NOS and some reproduction. Dave Barnhill, JoeOlympique, Bones, Goose, YETI. Also a huge thanks to Vince (Olyman) for letting me text him from time to time with many questions over the last year while in the home stretch. The project became international!! Also thanks to the many others who have inspired me to take on such a project. Guys like Joe K, EricR, Hotdoo, Olyman, Stomper, Brian Stiles, Gawajn and many others, sorry for leaving anyone else out!! Many times I would be working on this and ask myself what would Gawajn doo? I tried to set my standards to all of you guys, LOL. I'm sure there are others and you know who you are. If you've never restored a sled, you just can't appreciate what goes into it. Try it, you might like it. Anyway here are some pics. I'll add more as time permits. Here she is the day I brought her home. I remember EricR saying I should give him the sled because it has his initials on the hood, LOL. I've always wondered if ER is someone's initials, or does it stand for Eagle River since the previous owner gave this hood a "sporty, racing" look, HAHA. It is the GTO MONSTER after all. I would love to meet any of the previous owners. Seat and skis from a Columbia I got all of these skis with the sled. I paid $125 for the sled and sold all of the skis for more than that, so it was a great deal! I also got the original backrest, which I still have but did not reuse. So if anyone needs it, let me know.

Always the most fun part of the project. Restoring the Bogie trucks and axles!! This was about 7 or 8 years ago. The finished assemblies spent years in boxes on the top shelf along with the chassis, motor and track. Shame on me for taking so long to get back to this. The wife loves when I rebuild axles on the kitchen counter!! I used John Deere Medium Gloss Black spray paint for all of the black on this sled. Its a perfect match to the original black. I also used stainless steel pan head screws and lock nuts for the bogie and axle hardware. I was going for the most original look I could get. But I didn't paint them when it was all said and done.

So fast forward to more recent times, November 2018. It was time to get off my arse and a finally commit to finishing this project. I unboxed everything I had to give me some inspiration to keep going. It was like unwrapping gifts on Christmas morning . I had forgotten all of the items I had acquired for this job. I definitely contributed to Goose's retirement fund, LOL. Thanks again Goose for all of the goodies.
I took the chassis to one of my local automotive body shops. I told him all I wanted was a nice job, nothing perfect. Don't worry about making this a trailer queen was the plan. I wasn't too worries about smoothing-out all of the metal where there had been significant rust, and dings since this was/is intended to be a nice rider for vintage events and not perfect by any means.
He provided me with a large stack of paint chips and I got busy trying to match-up a color. I really didn't have a perfect example of 67-70 Ski Doo color in my garage and even tried the inside of the glove box door, but it was not good enough for me. But! I doo have a excellent condition 70 Ski Boose MK1 with the plastic tub. I used that and was able to get a great match.
And when it was all said and done this is what was used on the yellow goodies. This is highly regarded as a great paint for this application. Very durable!
I also got one spray bomb from DDub over there on Vintage Paint. I needed some for some smaller touch-ups

Ahhh, the day I picked up the chassis and skis was a great one. Finally progress!! Cost me a lot of money, but I'm not into dooin my own bodywork. And besides, I got a free Hoodie from the shop that did the work. All-in-all I am happy with the job they did.
I just had to see what the seat from Goose was gonna look like on there, LOL

The gathering and inventory of parts....hmmm what doo I already have, and what doo I still need? The scramble to locate some things began.
New motor mounts...
And link plate hardware I got from Spaulding a few years ago.

Gotta say Mark that you have done such justice to this 67 . It looks absolutely awesome and the attention to detail would make any of us bow. Thanks for showing us all... have to say the waiting for your post was killing me lol.
Did anyone mention this 67 has already won 1st prize??

Lots more pics to go, LOL
The track was a little tight, so I took my bench press weights (90 lbs total) and put them on the track to try to stretch it out a little over the course of a few days. It worked, best I can tell.
Original bogies tires are in excellent condition

Anyone up for a little engine clean-up?
A lot of patience, a lot of elbow grease some solvent and little tiny round brushes got all the grime and loose crud off.
A light polish of the fan shroud. I'm not going for the chrome look, just lightly shiny.
I was not going to tear the motor down so I could paint it, so I did a satisfactory job masking and went to town with the 2000F high-heat paint. Probably overkill, bit I'm going for that flat-black original look.
And the finished product.
Cleaned carb and a new kit from EC Carbs. All set to go.

Time to fully install the seat, but the socket in the original tail light was bad so I had to replace it. I purchased two new sockets and figured I could make one of them work. I wound up using the top black one The original socket. The contacts inside were shot.....I carefully cut away most of the soft rubber that made up the socket, but left a strip that I could use to hold the new socket in place, along with some strong adhesive. Here it is all setThen I polished-up the lens with some Novis #2 and there you have itMounted the muffler also....Now its REALLY starting to look like something!! Mounted the new mats I got from Goose. Used this stuff. Seems to be working OK, but time will tellNew windshield from Reid.....and cleaned up the hood. More elbow grease was in order. This was the first time I set the original hood next to the restored and painted tunnel. I was quite happy with the match of the colors. That's all for now, I'll probably finish adding the rest of the pictures tomorrow. Thanks for tuning in!

Very nice! Hadn't seen the original pictures from when you brought it home in some time, it appears the seat and skis were off an Ariens.
9 years? I have had my '67 Super since 2011- the chassis is so rotted it's not worth salvage, I have a better chassis that I just had blasted- so I have metal work ahead of me.
The color match on that original hood is great, I like the way you preserved the decals and such.
