I got another project from a old friend last week that I have been wanting for years I am confused on the year I always thought it was a 1961 but after researching on the internet now I am confused and wonder if it is a early 1962? Maybe somebody on here can tell me The serial plate is missing. It has a 8hp JLO with lights , steel skies with red tips The cab is 27 1/2 inches wide with straight sides (I read that 1962's were tapered and smaller cab's) It has a muffler in the tunnel in front of the track, large bogie wheels Is there anything else that would help identify it for sure? I see some have bars in front of the engine but this doesn't have any unless someone cut them off at some point

Sounds like a nice project. Here's an excellent close-up video on YouTube of a 1962 ski-doo. Maybe it will help. 1962 ski-doo Tin Cab

Do the bogie wheels have big steel plates on each side and have a little bit of rubber showing on the ends (60/61), or are they still big but have mostly exposed rubber? (Later 61's). My tin cab is also sans a serial tag, and although it has the really early style of foot stirrups I think it might be a left over 60 and sold in 61. That would make it a first number series of 61.... though it really is up to the eye of the beer holder. Get a few pics of it up here. Might be able to help out. Things like the steering arms, gas cap, bogies, handle bars & grips and we will try to help figure this out.

That's a nice rig you have there. It reminds me of min, but is more complete. IMO I think its a 61, because of the physical shape of the tinwork. Between 60 and 61 they shared the same shape, where the only difference was on 60 and a few unsold 60's had the vertical stirrups on the running boards. I've been going through some of the old books from the museum site showing the number lists. I think you have a 61 that wasn't sold in 61. Likely a left over and sold the year after as 'last years model'. I can't find your sled in the list, as the recorded numbers for 61 engine went up to 3754370 on tag# 6124450. archives.bombardier.org/uploads/r/wamok/6/0/8/608878a270cb9217b03e9a30a93b2c9d28c283d2606b24a15b18fd03eb560b96/Vol_4__Ski-Doo_octobre_1961_janvier_1962.pdfIts pretty neat looking through these books, as you find things that they made notes on with respect to what they changed etc. I dont speak french tho so I have to type it into google translate. One note I found was: "Num 612375 on all JLO 8hp, new clutch pulley without spline on the shaft. Changes on 1/15/62." At least that will help prove your's is newer or older than that date. I'll add more when i find it.

Here's some pictures Are the rubber washers under the ski's stock? The parts list doesnt show the rubber washers but i think they are original. If they weren't there you would have steel on steel. The springs are slotted to allow a little movement there and the rubber will take that friction. Here's a good example: davidsleds2.mysite.com/PAGE_21734.html Sure wish that was my sled!

Wow ,thank you very much I wish I had the serial number. I know it came from Northern Ontario many years ago but it would sure be neat to see where it was sold from when it was new.
