Finally after replacing the crank, 2 pistons w/rings, clutch, motor plate, reseal motor, fan belt and bearings, needle jet and jet needle, pilot jet and main jet, fuel lines, check valve, tank grommet, primer, fuel pump kit, drive axle bearings, all idler wheel bearings, suspension cross shafts, weld suspension arms, and a complete check and adjust of all systems the '78 Moto Ski Futura 400, it runs and drives. link to a short video:

Rotax type 402 pistons are not readily available so I had to modify some 399 style pistons with boost ports and raised the skirt on the intake side of the piston.

is that ALL? LOL! Nice work - it sounds great! Yes those 402 engines are definitely hard to find parts for. The way you did the pistons is a great idea! Is that painters tape? I've always wondered how to get transfer ports marked onto a donor piston. Now I know how.

The tape is automotive masking tape, a bit more robust than "painter's tape". I used the lower ring groove and the wrist pin holes as reference points to locate the template.
