I use either carb cleaner or brake cleaner, cleans up very nice.

After the carb/brake cleaner, a liberal amount of WD-40 works great to degrease...

Try Blech White tire cleaner, spray on let it soak a while then rinse.
Buckman Gunners
Wire with a rag on the end. Use carb cleaner or break cleaner.

Before you use all that harsh stuff, try a cleaning product called AWSOME, is usually found at dollar stores. I use it to clean everything. You might be surprised how much junk comes off with this.hotdoo

I've used Gunk Engine degreaser. Works great.

AWESOME is the best degreaser/cleaner on the market, will degrease a motor compartment, cases, frames, that gas tank. Only a $1.00 per bottle and found at any dollar store, dollar general or everythings a dollar. Says on the label as seen on TV. Unreal cleaner..

What is the recommended dilution of AWESOME to start with? I know..."depends how dirty the tank is.", however what would be a good starting dilution rate for the gas tank pictured in the beginning of this thread?
TIA.
RVcrazy
It comes in a plastic spray bottle just like windex or simple green or clorox cleaner etc etc. I spray it on full strength and don't dilute at all. Will make it super clean.

I know this thread is a couple years old but how did the tank turn out?

Friend just bought a 72 and the tank has a varnish like sludge inside. What works to cut and clean that out?
RVcrazy
Awesome is a $1.00 a bottle, throw the entire bottle in the tank or half at a time, put maybe a chain there and swish it back and forth to scrob the bottom, post results

Wow, originally posted almost 4 years ago.
What was mention above was a product called Awesome for a dollar at the dollar stores.
If you have three days for the product to clean the inside walls of the tank, then this is the product for you. Cheap, effective and bio-friendly. Really no fumes, yet always follow the recommendations on the bottle.
Pre-shot of the tank and post-shot of the tank. Clean enough for me to run the Nordic.
Thanks for your patience with this follow up response.

Good stuff, I use it on everything.hotdoo
