I came across this pretty good youtube channel about old sleds that a collector has put together. He must have beep pockets to collect all the stuff he has and unfortunately like all of us, bad luck does come by now and then. Some are likely only good for parts now... www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9xQd5VH7io

Very sad, he's got some rare, oddball sleds. At least all did not perish and I bet he's well insured.

Same thing happened to my inlaws pole barn about 15 years ago. Makes a hell of a mess and lots of things got lost and/or broken forever. At least no one was hurt - that would make any collapse FAR worse

At the peak of my obsession (60+ complete sleds) I needed storage for take-offs like suspensions, exhausts, air boxes. So put up a temporary Arrow brand building. Sure enough, the first winter a wet 24 inch snowfall partially collapsed the roof. Just so happened the next summer a local college engineering lab was giving away some home made, heavy industrial racking. Had to take the front off the Arrow bld to get them in, but the racks took up almost all the floor to ceiling space and left a narrow walkway in between.
Because of the previous snowfall incident I added some 2x4 stringers in between the racks and a few home made trusses to brace the roof.
Next winter a rather large birch tree decided to fall squarely on top of that poor Arrow building. Thanks to the shelves/trusses just some dented up roof panels. The 73 slide suspensions sitting on the very top of the racking showed no ill effect…...
Also demolished a small barn for a window that had a tree/wind storm collapse it. Inside was a 71 Bolens and a 67 Oly. Took them in payment for the 3 day demo effort. She was a nice lady. Considered it community service.

That is so sad. I've known Valdi a long time. I'm looking at the building construction and correct me if I'm wrong. It looks like there is eight (8) feet between the Trusses??? That can't be, can it? I know code for Pole Barns is Michigan is (depending on location) is either 24" or 18" or 16" on centersI know there are places in Ohio where it's three feet.

Pretty tough thing for him to wake up too. He has a bunch of other videos out there where he walks through his barn and talks about all his sleds, so you can get a better look at what he lost. They weren't done by him, but by others who visited him, I found them linked from his youtube site. I appreciate his upbeat, easy going demeanor, too bad it happened to him.
