I am planning on changing front and rear axle bearings on my Elan. Do I remove seals from both sides of the bearings? I am also changing the seals, and the springs on my bogies. Should be fun!!!

Nice! I think you will be better off removing both sides. I know you can leave one side on, but after taking a few apart that I've left one seal on ... it looked like it was starving the other side of the bearing, like the cup itself. That helped create rust and made it not so nice inside & difficult to take apart again. Every axle / bogie that had both seals removed did a better job of lubing EVERYTHING inside, including the metal bearing cup (axles) because they are prone to rust too. Same goes with the front axle.
I think the newer style with sliders is better off removing the outer seal (where the grease fitting is), just because of the design and not needing lube on the other side.
