The Ski Doo fever hit me pretty hard over the weekend. Picked up two sleds in two days! Wife says "WHERE are ya gonna put THOSE??" The 96 Skandic 500 was a long time ago co-worker's. The sled just sat mostly, appears to have 319 original miles on it assuming the speedo is functional. Will need a thorough going through. Runs, but not well. Spitting and wont idle. Cleaning out the old gas and cleaning both carbs will help that for sure. I'll start there. The 80 Citation SS has always been on my "wanted" list. Could never get my hands on one around here. My neighbor bought one new in 80 and I fell in love with this model sled then. This one has been sitting for a few (like 7) years, LOL. Its a great survivor but definitely needs some attention to a few items. It tries to start on the primer squirts but dies. Another carbs cleaning party!! Once I clean four carbs and two gas tanks, I hope to hear these run on their own.

Nicely done Mark! Both of those look like great additions to your herd! And yes the days are getting shorter so you ought to get a cleaning on those carbs!

Nice looking machines! That SS was the short track correct? A kid in school had the 3500 single version. We rode that thing two up and beat on it, never missed a beat!

Yes Eric, this SS has the 106" track. I'm not sure the one on this sled is the original one? It just doesn't have the same pattern that my 81 Citation had on it when I bought it (picture below of this 106" track). I just haven't yet spun the track around to look for any brand markings. I believe at one time, if you needed to replace this track, you were pretty much SOL since they were NLA. But GB Distribution is re-popping them now along with numerous other makes and models available.

I wonder why they went with that smaller track on the SS. Kind of a cheater way of making it accelerate faster? It was also used on the single 3500, so at least there was two models that could use it. Your track looks nice so that's good thing. I bet you could exchange the skid and track from a normal 4500 if you ever had to or wanted to. GB distributing is going to be one of the very few on the market soon it seems!

Guys, that track is the one track that would replace the 245RV/340TS tracks. Swap out the involute drivers for the 76-79 convolute drivers. Look at the inside of the tunnel and you will see that the steel tunnel brace brackets all have a hole towards the rear that isn't drilled out. The 105" to 106" doesn't seem like a lot, but you are comparing "active length" to "apparent length. A 106" rubber runs on the top of the track. A cleated track runs on the cleat, all the way through the track.

Tompriebe, thanks for that info! I finally got around to getting a closer look at this track. I was very surprised to see that it is an OEM Ski Doo track. For whatever reason (old age?), I do not recall the Citations having this style track on it. I know my 81 Citation 4500 did not when I first got it. Anyway, here are the pics:

Spent some time yesterday sprucing-up the windshield with the Novus #2 plastic polish. Timmy the Hermit used to swear by this stuff and I've been a believer for years now. It does a great job, but it does take some elbow grease! Speaking of grease, I still need to clean out the gunk from under the hood.
I also had the secondary apart somewhat because the spring tension was not set at all properly. In the spare box of parts I was given with this deal, there was a secondary spring which I assume is used. When that spring was replaced, the helix was not wound enough. The secondary would move with only about 2 lbs. of force pulling on it.
This is the good side of the sled. The other side has seen some damage unfortunately. Obviously, it was smashed a little and it was put back into shape, but it needs some TLC. No picture of that side to show yet, LOL.

Looks great Mark! I also like to use that Novus - and it was Tim who got me onto it as well!

SS were great little sleds, light, with some horsepower and fun to ride. I had one new one of only two sleds that I had to stud to keep them going straight! Other was the '79 Citation my wife still has, wish I had kept mine but I am collecting parts to build one! hotdoo
