Has anyone powder coated there tunnel/frames ? I am looking into having a buddy sand blast and powder coat a few sleds for me, just want to clean up some runners….. not looking for show pieces. Looks like he can use the reference paint code listed in the help section….. just curious what results anyone has had…..

There are a couple guys in Michigan that are having their Bubblenoses Power Coated. They are not on the board. It's all about the prep $$$ also. Using RAL 1023 (RAL-1023) Traffic Yellow. It's bright yellow with a polyester solid tone and gloss finish (Gloss 71-85 Gloss Units).

Not much help on this, but just sharing... I was thinking of powder coating all of the black parts of the slide suspension on my 70 TNT 292. Everything you see in the picture. The cost was going to be $300. I opted for the typical treatment of finishing with the John Deere Medium Gloss Black. I couldn't justify spending $300 since it was not a full restoration. This was the cost from a place in Erie, PA.

When "dooing" black suspension parts for riders I've been using Rust-Oleum Balck Appliance Epoxy Spray Bombs (Rattle Cans). I've had great luck with it holding up under harsh conditions. However, no matter how hard I try, it just looks goobed (is that even a word???) on.

Hey Monty, you’re not alone. Round suspension parts are a PITA to paint. Find it difficult to get uniform coverage, have to keep changing the hold/orientation of the part. After being sand blasted the surfaces are anything but smooth anyway. If the goals are corrosion protection and longevity not sure it matters all that much. Had a welcome to 2022 moment recently when I walked into the paint jobber for supplies. 3M got out of the pinstripe business, so the 3//16 black tape needed to duplicate some oe decals is NLA. To add icing to the cake the cheapest gallon of epoxy primer, the no name stuff, is past $180 gall. Anything with a brand name on it (PPG, Axalta/DuPont) had a price that would bring a tear to your eye. Here’s a shot of last summer’s painting tree forest.
