Hey guys, so my 1970 tunnel has pretty well bit it…. Rust has rotted out the back end pretty good…. I have pushed it and been riding it as is but I have been keeping a eye out for a replacement tunnel. Was talking to a friend at work, he is a elan guy. And he thought his buddy had a tunnel around that year. He claims he thinks it a 1969 but might be a 1968. He also claims it’s in nice shape and even thinks the gas tank is good…. He is also a elan guy so apparently no need for it, I think he just robbed some parts….. and the price is right….. 50 bucks and a 30 pack.
so basically my question is this. The 1969 and 1970 tunnel is the same thing right ? I feel like they look the same to me…. But a 1968 tunnel is definitely different right ? Ultimately I am just looking to make a nice runner out of it, but it of course want to use my 1970 hood and such…..

Sijjbib- The '69 and '70 differ in the way the rear axle/link plate were connected- look at the bottom two pics in this collage. I got this off a facebook bubblenose board.

Thanks so much, exactly what I was looking for….. I picked up the tunnel/frame it’s a 1969, it’s in great shape, and came with the rear axle mounts so I am all set to switch over everything from the 70…. The frame was painted at some time, the color is off, I think I could even match it up better with spray paint… just have to decide how deep I want to dive into this !

I meant to reply sooner. You can make it work with the 69 frame. Like Eric mentioned the only real difference that you will notice is the rear axle mounts. If you need some parts I likely have some here. Glad you found that frame to keep the old girl alive.

Hey, thanks olyman…. It came with the rear axle so it looks like I have the track adjuster and such….. need some slight modifications for the steering hoop stabilization, as it mounts a little different….. I need to dig into the tank a little, I am told it’s good….. will see. Looks like I am actually going to have a buddy at work sandblast and powder coat it for me…. Which is turning me into stripping my other 1969 down and having that done too….. she is getting a little rusty…..
