Hi folks- got to make my annual trip to my native Minnesota from the deep south- this year the snow was deep and sugary. I went to the Midwest Ride In at Elk River motorsports park, this replaces the old "Waconia" event. What a venue! 400 or so acres on what appears to me was once some sort of a gravel pit or quarry, the facility hosts truck, atv and motocross races in the summer and snowcross in winter.
Big swap meet- I scored a '71-'72 vintage 15 horse 299 complete with clutch, recoil and carburetor for $50. Then a '67-'68 Super Oly muffler with no cracks or welds that doesn't rattle for $30.
I put about 30 miles on my sled (cough! Yes, a John Deere 300, but it was the 'year of the Deere" as the feature) just riding around the place.

Let me see if I can get some pics to post!
This was a home built, bolt on track on a Coleman mini bike! This guy rode this thing all over.
Two guys rode from Fargo, ND to the Elk River MN site over a period of days to commemorate the old Winnepeg to St Paul MN I-500 ride, on restomodded John Deeres to commemorate the 50 years of John Deere who started building snowmobiles in '72.
I love how they stitched the hood on this one, then applied a "frankensiten" sticker, then brushed clear over it all!
Next pic, a 1969 Sno Prince.
My '71 Scorpion Stinger II I took on a 27 mile loop- with a sticking primary clutch LOL! What can I say the helmet cost more than the sled ($200 sled, $225 carbon fiber 509 helmet) the '76 Jag to the right is a buddies, it was his mom's new. Hadn't run in years. He rode with his 3 year old daughter sitting in front of him. Until the rusty tank plugged the fuel filters. He was up until 5am getting it running for this "vintage" ride about five leafers showed up for.
I never got this dude's name, but he rode this '71 640 TNT in a jacket and a vintage Ski Doo stocking cap with no goggles or anything in 12* temps!
My new friend JD's nice survivor '70 Moto Ski Capri, single cylinder 300 Hirth powered.
My fleet in Minnesota- left to right- '73 Oly 340 twin, '71 Elan with '73 offset spindles and skis, kind of a Johnny Cash special- '76 John Deere 300- my other '73 340 Oly (wears a '72 hood) my '71 Scorpion, single cylinder 293 Sachs power.
The Elan, perfectly balanced. The hood lifts off, the seat I use is normally held on with bungies, I just ripped it around standing up. Wears nothing and side hills great!
Night riding with a buddy in the woods, getting stuck, laughing our asses off!
I love Hamm's!
