Question to GaWajn... What do you spray on oil seal and gasket ? GaWajn
In these pictures ... it is fogging oil. I just like to get the gaskets a little wet. I don't think it is really needed. It is just a tip that from a guy that used to rebuild a lot on engines, from back in the day. Any kind of oil would work I guess ... 3 in 1 ... two stroke ... WD-40 ... A little oil on the seals help them to slide in place. That also might not be needed ... it is just something that I picked up ... somewhere along the way. I once got a little tear in a seal while trying to put them in dry so I thought that a little oil for the installation might help.

I always use brake cleaner or carb cleaner on my seals. It makes the rubber very slippery to the point where you can almost push them all the way by hand

Back in the 70's I would use grease, didn't matter what kind.
Into the 80's and 90's I would butter gaskets (Not head) with a small amount and I mean small amount of Locktite 515 or Permatex gasket eliminator. This helped greatly with the problem of base gaskets getting spit out.
Seals I still use grease on the inner lips of the seal and 515 on the outside.

I WOULDN'T USE BRAKE CLEANER. IT WILL ATTACK THE RUBBER. I JUST USE A LIGHT FILM OF GREASE

I often smear a tiny bit of the red crankcase loctite that I use to put twin halves together. Kinda glues them into place as well as ensures a seal
