After too many years of it sitting, I have finally begun giving my 70 TNT 292 a little TLC. I am going to post a thread on the work I am doing in the General Discussion section to share the progress but I plan to use this thread to post technical questions that may pop-up from time to time. So here's the first few:
This sled has the slide suspension which is totally new to me. The the original Hyfax were totally shot. The top sliders were not too bad, but I figured I'd replace the entire set so got them from Goose. I drilled out the rivets and I believe the original rivets were steel. My local Lowes only has Aluminum rivets. Are Aluminum rivets strong enough for this job?
What is the correct length for these rivets? I believe the width is 3/16".
Is a special rivet gun required for this job? The seat where the rivet needs to compress inside the hyfax is recessed and my rivet gun will not stick into the hole far enough (does that make sense?) Can I use some sort of spacer or collar, or bushing to press against the head of the rivet when I'm cranking down on the head of the rivet? Just wondering if there is a trick to this job.
The track has seen better days. The track itself isn't horrible and has some life left in it. The problem is the cleats. I'm missing a few and some are pretty bent upward on the edges. Olyman said this could be due to the poor condition of the trashed sprockets. Are these cleats available anywhere? I would gladly replace the track with new if it were available, but I don't think it is. There is an outfit out of Quebec that is supplying a lot of nice, new desirable tracks. If you haven't seen this check it out. Too bad they are not making this one, at least it doesn't look like it to me.

That's it for now, I hope someone can chime in on some of this, think snow! The days continue to get shorter!
