I rebuilt two carbs this week, a Hr7A and Hr75A. I tested the Hr75A (original fitment on a 335) successfully on a 299 a few days ago. I got it to pull gas, settle onto an idle then shut it down. Today I could see gas still in the line right up to the carb. Out of curiosity I closed the choke, gave it a pull and it started right up!! First pull! No idea yet how it'll run with load or at speed but it's such a satisfying feeling to rebuild a Tilly and actually have it work out. Given my past spotty record with Tilly's isn't 100% made it all the more satisfying. Must give a shout out to the GaWajan series of videos that walked me through the process. Used 1 Tilly HR OEM kit for the HR7A and 1 "in house" HR carb kit from G.B. Distribution for the HR75A. Was a good vendor to deal with. The Tilly kit came with 1 fulcrum spring, the GB kit came with 5 different springs. I was able to get the pop at 10psi with both kits, though with the GB kit I had to try several of the springs till I landed on 10 psi. This is also the first time I used a pop off tester. Thus far it seems to fulfil the hype as a tool to know if the needle is sealing and releasing in the targeted pop off zone before putting it all back together. Now if we could only get some snow and try it out for real.

I hope Bones takes a deep breath before reading your post, LOL!!! He's been known to string-up Tillys in nooses!! But seriously, nice job!! you speak truth! Pop off testers are the cat's meow and save a bunch of time when setting these carbs up properly. And having a quality rebuild kit is also essential. On a side note, I wasn't as fortunate today. I attempted to start-up my 67 Oly 250 for the first time since September. Choke on, first pull sent gas to the carb so the gas was probably only 6-8 inches from the carb. 2nd pull, nothing, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th pull nothing!. WTH? Key is on, gas is at carb, I can smell it. So, I check for spark. I pulled the plug and its pretty wet and I hook it up to the plug wire, give it a pull and NO SPARK! CRAP!!! I silently utter to myself, as if anyone else would have heard me talking. I grab an old Champion K-9 plug from a container of old used plugs, hook it up and BAM, big blue spark. Installed it, gave it one pull and viola ! The little 250 came to life. Funny how the plug was fouled, before it even started. It wasn't fouled the last time the Oly was running in September and when I shut it off, obviously. I wonder if it matters that the fouled plug was an original used Bosch M240T-1, LOL. Probably a 40 year-old plug, HAHA. Good times playing with these old sleds!!!
