We had a fairly long discussion regarding the 12/3-S badge several years ago on this board ( boardnation). I doo not think there was ever a concrete decision.

I've never heard of one myself, but you'd have to wonder if someone put the S on it after they put one of those older sport kits on the engine. The one you could get that would change the 299 to have the HD carb etc on it. Can't recall if that was a "Doug's" thing or not. I think Nico is running one of those kits in an older engine on his 71 292 tnt sled.

olyman. The 300 sport kit was a Rotax issue. I doo not think Ski Doo called the sleds with a sport kit a "S" sled. Actually the 300 sport engine is very similar to a 292 engine. Here is a pic of the badge that yeti is likely talking about. I got it many years ago with some nos stuff I got. Bones

That's cool - I've never seen a badge like that. Maybe it was a short form for "Steel", considering the they once had a A/S meaning Aluminum/Steel.

Found it. They only mention the olympique 12/3 as just that. But apparently you could get a 12/3 S which stood for sliders. They made 1412 units of them according to Pierre Pellerin, who made the book i took this from

Olyman, wow, great info. I guess I never knew the 12/3 came in the slide version. I was just about to comment that I would find it hard to believe that with all of the experts on this site, that there was something still unknown about these old gems. I'm looking forward to the next mystery!
