I don't usually do restorations for other people, but I could not resist this one. It is a 1961 Ski Doo with a Kholer engine that belongs to a friend. He will be rebuilding the engine and the bodyshop will be taking care of the body and paint. I will be dismantling and reassembling the machine ... restoring bits and pieces as I go. Pretty neat project if I doo say so myself! He has sourced a NOS track for this project ...

What great starting point! . How great to see a survivor of almost 60 years. It's not rotted out. I'm thinking I'd be tempted to mechanically refurbish it and keep the old patina but I know when you both do your parts it's going to look fantastic. Interesting spring attachments. Are they fixed at both end?

Very nice ride you're working on! I wish my tin cab was a 10th of that condition.. Does it have the really big bogies or medium ones? Big rear sprockets too?
Keep lots of pics - I might need to see them when I start on mine lol

Wow Gawajn, the coolest stuff just seem to find you. Based upon seeing the results of your previous projects, I know this one will be another awesome job. Have fun, and yes, we love pictures!

The bogie assemblies look to be in great condition. Clean and paint I think. Remarkable for how old this machine is ... Nothing is seized ... Skis are good also ... I am down to removing the chaincase. I am having a little bit of trouble separating the front axle from the chaincase. I hope to solve the issue this week because the body need to go to the sandblaster ... That's it for this weeks progress ...

Shame on me for saying this,... I absolutely love the 61, but I keep getting distracted by the eye candy in the room. The TNTs are just sweet! Ok, now back to your regularly scheduled post, LOL.

Agreed that there's always some sweet eye candy in GaWajn's man-barn! And wow that 61 is looking really good. Hope the axle came out easy?
