Looks nice Larry. Which color on the ski is the correct one.
The short answer to that question is... none of them !
The full ski was originally painted Cat Yellow...too mustard. It was then taped off into quarters.
The front quarter (from the tip back to where the ski runner comes through) remains Cat Yellow.
The second quarter is JD Old Construction Yellow. The JD doesn't appear that much different than
the Cat Yellow but that similarity is mostly photographic in nature. The TNT and the Nordic Flyer wagon in the photos
are painted in JD Old Construction. When side by side with a correct '71/'72 you can certainly see the difference.
However, it is a pleasing yellow, readily available from any Caterpillar dealer, and has the best coverage
of any of the yellow aerosols that I've tried. $13/$14 a can, a little steep in the world of spray bombs, but, hey,
you get what you pay for.
The third quarter is the obsolete Armor Coat Sunshine Yellow from Canadian Tire. It's a nice yellow and I
used it on my first two TNTs. But... it is such a poor quality paint with such thin coverage and runs like the marathon
that I abandoned it for the TNT you see in the photo. I still have 4 or 5 cans of the Armor Coat if anyone wants them.
Shipping could be complicated given that it's a hazmat.
The last quarter is Plastikote Slicker Yellow. It was a recommendation so I bought a can for the test. It's a little
light and lemon for my taste. But if you compare it to the helmets above it actually looks pretty close. It's sort of
starting to grow on me.
