Do you guys ever do anything to the bogie shaft after putting the bearing back on? Seems like there was some kind of flaring or something done to the end of the shaft to help prevent the bogie from wandering off. I have had one fall off on my 70 a few years ago, as I did nothing after pulling the old bearing off and hammering a new one on... TIA

That's a great idea and simpler than the route I took. That being said the dimples I hit into the ends look just like the oem ones. Had to pull one off after realizing I put a bad bearing on.. (duh) and it clung on there much better than I expected it to. Here's the OEM "dimples" you can see 4 around the inner lip. Probably done when the bearing was pressed onto the shaft by one of bombardier's many patented machines. This is my crude outfit for doing the same thing. Only takes 3 or 4 hits to do the same thing (after the bearing is on the shaft of course). End result so far is looking good IMO... (both plates seen here came from the same set - but the one on the left just didnt make the cut to the blast booth)

The correct way back in the day was to use the rounded end of a ball pein hammer and tap it with another hammer to flare the end of the tube to the slight radius at the edge of the bearing race.

Glad to help olyman. I am a wealth of useless information, but I grew up in a family dealership that sold 67's through 76's, so I still remember a few tricks. Very glad to see that the Board found a new home. This group has been a great source for me over the years!
