I brought this sled home last year that I gott from a co-worker. It was just sitting outside at his place since they spun the sprockets and left it for dead.
Didn't pay much attention to it, just dragged it inside, got the engine to fire up and left it there for a year +.
Few weeks ago I fired it back up again and had all sorts of things flying out of the side while it ran on the sprayed in premix. Of course there was a fully family of field mice inside. Some didnt fair so well to the engine running ...
Anyhow, pulled the engine and got it all cleaned up. The engine clearly didn't have a lot of hours on it. It looked like the flywheel was never off to be honest. The whole sled appeared to be low hours and in good shape, with the exception of the 'fun' that my co-workers and gang had with it lol
Today I was looking a little closer at the gas tank. It had the typical cracked plastic gas line fitting thing, but when I pulled the tank to inspect it more I noticed it was different than all the other black tanks I dealt with before. This one has the same 69/70 style cap that has the cork seal + metal tab that fits into the 1/4 turn metal tank insert. Then I noticed that the top of the tank had a lot of lines and patterns from when it was made - just looked crude. Tried to find the bombardier logo on it but instead has a large letters marked PROTOTYPE.. Has anyone ever seen this on a 71 tank before? The straps that hold it on also are inverted where the little screws attach.
Other things that look odd (to me) on this sled are the bumpers. The front brab handle is chrome, but the wrap around bumper looks galvanized, and i can find no evidence anywhere of chrome on it. I thought that even the lowly 300 had chrome? Same with the rear grab bar - it has remants of just black paint thats on the body. There is no sign anywhere of new paint being on this sled so I'm thinking that what Im seeing - is how it came.
Thoughts?
