Compare OEM single cylinder mufflers.
Question.... I have a muffler off s single cylinder Elan ( I believe a 74). I measure the OD & ID of the exit pipe, I measure the OD of inlet pipe, I measure the OD & height of can, all these measurements are identical to a muffler for a 335. So ?? is...are the mufflers actually the same or is there some thing different internally ??
I know they are different part #s, but there is a different angle to the exit due to a difference in engine mount plats.
Thanks for any input.

I wish Greg Spaulding would chime in here. I would like to read what he would have to say on this subject!

Hello Bones and GaWajn
When I studied many Ski-Doo mufflers in order to produce mine, here's what I found.
The Elan 300 single and 69-70 12/3 had a 40mm OD 1.5 wall inlet pipe.
The 320, 335 (non SS and TNT) used a 42mm 1.5 wall inlet pipe.
The exit pipe is 34mm OD 1.5 wall on all above.
The internal designs of the mufflers above are the same. And the mufflers will interchange on all the above engines but as Bones mentioned, the Elan has different exit pipe location on the chassis.
Thanks

Goose has a 335 in a '71 Elan with the 335 muffler, he had to trim the corner off the '71 hood's right hand pocket as the muffler hit it and the hood would not close all the way.
I suspect the cylinder on the taller longer stroke engine moves the muffler "up" in relation to the mounts and causes this. It does discharge out the stock location.

Funny I have a 335 in a 71 Elan and I didn't have any problems with the muffler hitting the hood. Mine ran great till the muffler blew off hmmm must be a 335 thing

Just a thought. Seems to me that the elan muffler constricted the 335 motor too much. I had a 335 that ran poorly til the muffler gave up. When I replaced it I noticed that it was an elan muffler. Reinstalled a correct muffler and it woke that machine right up (if u can say that about a 40 yr old bbl noz). Also got a 292 one time w/ elan muffler, same thing.
Doonut
So does still apply to the Elan 250 single muffler?? Greg says for the 300 single but not the 250? I have a 299 muffler, or at least I think it is, got so many of different styles of single mufflers. I have a 320AS muffler that needs replacing, and with a little modifying I can make it work. Just curious about the 250 muffler.

hm, I have no issues with my 335s in the elans , hoods fit ok, I no when I put my pipe on I have one hood cut out for that..
