had a whopping 1 hr of runtime on my fresh 340 top end when a circlip let go and took out the piston and sleeve.
I have the old sleeve out and a replacement ready to go in.
I figured now is a good time to play with the port timing if anybody had a good setup?? Anybody?

Hi oldonelunger. This was a "hot" topic on the board a few months back. The 340 single T`nT engine is basically the same design as a 340 single Blizzard engine. We came to the conclusion that it is not too difficult to port a T`nT jug to match a Blizzard jug. I am not sure what will happen if you use a can muffler with that porting I can`t seem to find the port specs I got at that time, I think Colin has them mapped out.
I also think I recall Colin saying he knew of a engine running with that porting
Colin, where are you

Hmm, I would love to find out as well. Seems a 340 TNT single found it's way into one of my Elan chassis already.
I am seriously considering implanting it into a FA TNT chassis with some other "enhancements" in the chassis like GR style suspension etc.

I have the design cut-out on hard paper/thick paper. I believe I got it from lowtekrednek a few years back. All you to is make it into a circle and slide it on in the cylinder. Has the portings cut out, mark and grind. I believe I have some good quality paper that would work good for this. May take me a while, but shoot me some emails. I may just draw the ports out and make a bunch of copies. Make sure you pay special thanks to lowtekrednek though. IF it wasn't him, I'm sure he'll get a kick out of it. By the way, not tested by me so no warrantees implied lol, but I'd bet it'd run good! See yas!

As i posted in another topic, I doo have a copy of '70 blizzard port specs. I wasn't sure if they would work in a TNT jug.
The port specs are all close except the exhaust port opens 7 deg earlier . Thats a 4mm difference in port height!
Anybody tried these specs? Anybody know what a 340 blizzy revs at?

I'm sure some of you guys saw the #72 Ski-Doo take the modified singles race win at the Whiteout on Saturday....the race officials said his average speed was near 63mph...and he had to be doing 70 on the straights!
It was worth the 6 hour drive for me to see him spank those yamahas and cats! anybody check out his buggy?
A rusted out elan chassis (for lighter weight!!?) with a TNT type 292 engine running a stock track and a STOCK can muffler!!!
onedonelunger, that might answer your stock muffler question....I'm sure this guy has done a lot of testing and he had to be running high top end porting, like the blizz...in fact....whatever porting he was using, I would like to know what it is. Any body know that guy? I think his sled had a Carlisle PA sticker on it and his plates were PA.
oldonelunger
I'm on the fence as to whether I'm going to port it to blizzy specs.
I doo love HP.
I need to look at the alum casting to see if it there is enough material to take the radical raised ports.
Richard, thanks for the template you sent. Have you seen a tnt jug ported to these specs run? How well to they work?
blizzard73x
When I first started racing singles in about 91 I started with a stock 340 tnt cylinder and a 71 Blizzard pipe. After a couple races I had the cylinder ported to 70 blizzard specs. I have a 70 bliz motor so I had him copy the port timing exactly. The spec are still very conservative. I dont know how it would run with a can muffler but I know the talk of a 70 mph 292 with a can is wishful thinking. The porting seemed to work pretty good and I ran stock timing and a High altitude head. I also switched to an hdr carb from a 72 797 blizzard. That combo brought me close to the leaders but I needed more so I had Loren Machart port up another cylinder with some specs he had worked up. It was a lot wilder than blizzard specs with boost ports and radical port timing, cut head, welded crank and a 650 wildcat pipe. After going through 4 pistons getting the timing down, had to retard it, and getting the stinger length right, to let out heat, I won the mod single class at Eagle river in 03.It was the biggest class there that year with I think 40 some entrys. There were 3 yama's and a couple of sno-jets in the finals. I have semi-retired that sled but I may bring it out again someday. Seems like the 70 and older single relic class has died at Beausejour. Sooo, short answer to your 70 blizzard specs, go ahead and try it it should work ok and its not radical enough to hurt anything

Here I am! I posted the port pattern on here some time ago, I don't know if it is still here but I have a pic of it somewhere on my computer, I'll keep looking! Blizzard motor should run 7000-7500 rpm.
PS To any relic racers in the Winnipeg/Manitoba area: After 20 years of searching to find my perfect relic racer I am putting the finishing touches to my '70 340 blizzard, but there isn't a relic class at Beausejour for this March 3-4 unless at least 3 sleds are entered in the class. Come on you guys, drag out your old singles to make at least three laps at Beausejour, MB this March!
olympique_mike
blizzard73X: thanks for your details about these old singles....the guy i saw, #72, had the HDR carb on there too....leads me to think that 'Type 292" tag on the fan shroud is a decoy.....
His sled looked like a pile but it was dialed in...he had the front bogies out of there, forged spindles with the spread, an elan hood, and you could see through the chassis in SEVERAL places!!!
He held it pinned into turn 1 & 3 and held a tight line all around. I am only guessing about the top speed but you probably know exactly what it would be if he was averaging 60 mph...
I wish I could hear the announcer give his name.....

Decoy, I'd love to get a copy of those specs. I have one 340 jug that has had some work done to it already & I want to see how it compares & try to match it.
Thanks as well to the others for input on this topic.
oldonelunger
wow, right on. This is the kind of info I've been looking for.
FYI I am running a tuned pipe, not a can muffler. Its a center pipe off a FIII 600. It works well, but I need to lengthen the center section to get it to work at a reasonable RPM for a lunger.
Well, my mind is made up. time to drag out the porting equipment.

well, the sleeve is cut to blizzard specs. Tomorrow I will install it in the jug and match the ports.

Hey oldonelunger what did you use for the new sleeve?
a 335?
I have a 340 jug with a broken sleeve I need to replace. I was going to use one from a 335 & grind it to fit the 340 specs.
I just got a copy of the Bliz spec & I'll check my ported 340 jug to see where I'm at on it.
