Hi guys, I asked on another thread about this and was wondering if there was any opinion on Ed's 440 Sno Pro that's on eBay?
Thanks Ward

Hi, Ward. I'll ask my brother Dan (champ440) to post his thoughts on it.

One thing is it really a Sno Pro motor or just a 9500 Blizzard motor. Hood is wrong color

I was only going by his listing about the motor and you are the second one to mention the color of the hood. From the books I have, the 78 factory teams had a black hood and then they sold ones with yellow hoods to specific independent racers. Many pictures show the yellow hoods. I am only going by what I've read and thats why I was asking the guys on this site. I have never owned a 440.

I think it's just the top of the hood that should be black. Sides and nose yellow.

I think the ss had black hoods and the super mods had all yellow hoods. Ward I thought you had one at the cottage ?

I think I found the answer to the hood color in Phillip J Mickelson's book 'Ski-Doo racing sleds" 1960-2003.
The black hoods were super stock sleds 250/340/440 and were sold to racers. Quote: "A handful of Super Mod Blizzards were built for the factory race team and independent modified class drivers" The hoods were completely yellow.
Just what the book says, didn't win it anyway.

FYI, apparently in 78 there were 12 each SM Yellow hoods built. 12 250's, 12 340's and 12 440's. The vins end at 012 on the tunnel. The ignition was different and the heads had 2 plugs each. As compared with the SS sno pros, they were very rare. This was obviously not one of them. The SS's were built with 200 of each, so I have been told. L E A R N I N G CURVE, what can I say. At least I can spell it

Ward where did you hear this from? The super mods had their own serial numbers (kind of)
Here's the numbers...
78 250 Super Stocker 3561
78 250 Super Mod 3561-01
78 340 Super stocker 3562
78 340 Super Mod 3562-01
78 440 Super Stocker 3563
78 440 Super Mod 3563-01
So basically a super mod would have a serial number of 356101009 for example
gmcars10
Using your example of the vin being "356101009 " that would be the 9th of 12 . Thanks for the info on the way they did the numbers.
