Thinking about putting together another one. I have enough left over parts to build another elan. I'm thinking doing a long track I have a 139" track out of an alpine and a couple tunnels that I can make one out of. Question is does anyone have a long track? I have seen pics of the extensions but none of the pics are real Good. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

HOW COULD YOU PUT A NEWER TRACK WITH A 2.52 PITCH ON AN ELAN? FRONT AXLE MIGHT BE EASY BUT WHAT ABOUT THE REAR AXLE? WOULD A 2.52 SPROCKET BOLT UP TO AN OLD AXLE? IF NOT WHAT AXLE WOULD YOU USE?

Good question. I assume a 2.52 track has different size holes and you cant use the older (normal) sprockets to drive an tension the track anymore. The front axle would have to be an involute sprocket - and if thats the case not sure how many axles you can find that hold those and still fit inside the old chain case. Likely the axle would be too long and would need some modifying at the right side. Could even use a flange bearing there, and seal off the axle from losing the case oil And in that fashion you could make up a rear axle just the same as the front. Just have a shaft that newer style idlers fit onto, use aluminum sleeves to go onto the shafts and prevent the idlers from moving around on you. Leave enough space for a bearing to be exposed on the ends, and use the old fashion link plate... ? just an idea..
