Any idea's on what exhaust works best on a 292? I've heard that an expansion pipe like what Goose makes will offer a little more power, but they are way too loud for rec use. What about one of the tuned pipes from the 72/73 tnts? Is it worth the effort compared to the can muffler? expansion pipe: 72/73 style (mine isnt this nice lol) I've also got a late 70's 340 olympic style exhaust... Just looking for a better sound and little more ZIP from the 292. I want to make my 70 a performer for next winter.

Olyman- a couple years back Russel Calder who's "handle" on this site I forget had a '71-2-3 whatever Oly he ran in the one lunger classes- he adapted a Donaldson Power Tune muffler to it, dumped down out the recoil side running board like I have the glasspack of thunder on my '69 Oly- those mufflers have a mini meg inside the can- Scorpion used them and I think helped develop them. My '71 StingerII with the 293 Sachs runs one. They are about the size of a small turbo muffler as they would be called in the car world. Here is a vid of the sled, you can hear how that pipe sounds- www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOQ02cvUjRM

Thanks Eric. Good info. I think that might be snowcruiserman, but could be wrong. Your scorpion sounds good too. Good food for thought. I f I could find one I'd try it.
I also have one of the triple expansion chambers from a formula 3, but not smart enough to know if that would hinder or help after silencing it..

Yes- Snowcruiserman- that was it. Grain farmer from Letallier, MB If I recall.
There's a guy in MN that has those Donaldsons new, I think he bought out a load of them.

Vince, I always figured you for a hard core Doo'er! You're not working on yellow gold in the off season? Not touchin a sled?? Say is isn't so! My image of you is shattered, LOL. Is the tractor at least one of the yellow (cub Cadet) variety? Just having fun man,...

I recall reading an article in a mag several years ago about a 292 exhaust. The build was by some performance / vintage race shop. They were attempting to use a existing pipe of any brand/engine size. I sure do not remember much for details but they felt a 292 liked a large volume pipe. I have the 72/73 kidney style on the 340 lunger racer I have. Don`t know if it actually helps or not ?? I used it as much as any thing to reduce the breaking problem with the OEM can. Bones

Thanks Bones. Good points. I've started going down the path of the FIII pipe, so hopefully it is enough volume to make it work. If nothing else it should sound good lol. I definitely hear you about the breaking improvement.
