Larry how did you apply it and what did you do to rinse it off. My truck salesman told me about it but didn't know much about it. The sandblasting goes pretty good when I can see things.

I poured the 5F5 into a five quart disposable plastic paint pot liner and then brushed it on with a two and a half inch wide inexpensive china bristle brush. Directions on the can call for brushing in one direction only. Let it work for about fifteen minutes. The yellow paint will start to ripple up like ribbon candy. Actual paint removal was done with stiff steel putty knives (not the flexible ones), a one inch and a three inch, and course steel wool. You'll get the hang of using the knives without gouging into the steel. I tried a stiff plastic putty knife at first but it just didn't have the bite to get under the paint. I rinsed it with paint thinner but that's because I knew it was going to be blasted later. If you complete your blasting and go straight to primer I would rinse with acetone.
I've stripped a '66 Olympiqe and the '71 Valmont with this technique. It seemed like the paint on the '66 put up more of a fight. Expect to apply multiple coats on the stubborn areas. It's a job. A bit of a head banger actually. Hermit would call it therapy. Okay, I can get down with that. It's a night in the shop massaging a chassis with a few cold brews disappearing along the way.
The 5F5 has plenty of working time in the pot, it doesn't harden up. You can leave it in the pot, covered up, with the brush in there, overnight and be ready to pick up where you left off the next evening.
I think there may be a cost savings using the stripper. I bought a box of sand at Harbor Freight one time a few years ago. I think I payed about forty dollars for it. There wasn't much left after blasting just the Valmont ski. I've got to imagine you'd use more than one box for an Olympique chassis. I believe a gallon can of 5F5 goes for around thirty dollars. Pretty sure you could doo a whole chassis with one gallon and still have some left over. I'm speculating a little bit here but it feels right to me.
I've tried several other brands of strippers, the 5F5 was, by far, the best of the bunch. I don't see it as readily available in paint stores as it used to be so you may have to search for it. I did just that last night and it does appear to still be available.

Larry sounds like that process would work really good once you get the hang of it seems simple. My auto parts store recommended this sand and it worked really good was reasonable in price went for $9.80 for a 50lb bag. I've used 2 1/2 bags so far and have 75% of the tunnel done but if I could've seen better probably would of had it all done.

Ha! Quickrete, they have it all. That seems like a great price for a 50 pound bag. Maybe my recollection of the Harbor Freight buy is off. Blast away. Go west young man, earn a dollar a day like your family said. The stripping is a nasty job. Just because I did it, twice, doesn't mean it's right

Got the top of the tunnel from fab shop late last night just put it on to see what I have to do. Looks I have to make some modification to fit it better. Would like to get this done so I can prime it and maybe paint before planting season starts.

Tank job looks good- I pressure tested mine after welding- found a rubber expanding plug (tighten the bolt and it expands) that fit the fill neck, put an air fitting in one of the fuel inlet/outlet bungs (they are 1/4" FPT) and put a PSI gauge in the other. Used a regulator to put 2psi in. I put a shut off valve on the air so I could hold pressure in the tank. At first I had some pin holes in my weld seam, I sealed them with plumbers solder. Anyway it held pressure for 24 hrs and I called it good. Been holding fuel now since 2012! I would love to be working on a sled right now, but have some home improvement crap going down right now. Not nearly as fun.

Looking good Olympic! Good for you for keeping the project alive in these off-season months, LOL. Technically it's a great time to work on these sleds since the temps are conducive to being out in the garage. I can't seem to get motivated to work on anything yellow. It doesn't help that I've got a bunch of "summer" projects to tackle. Keep the pictures comming!

Doing some blending in this is tedious work that is very time consuming.
