Here is a pic of my 320 from back in 2012 freshly assembled- I used a product called "Tech Flow" filler after grinding out the cracks, and doing some glass work from the back side- In retrospect, a poor choice. It's a finishing and blending putty- I should have used what others have advised, brushed on resin then sanded smooth than a little glaze as needed. I used 2k urethane primer and sanded between coats, then two to three coats of single stage urethane enamel mixed up at my local NAPA. (fleet color MSU35A, totally matched the NOS headlight door and the PERFECT to the decals trunk I scored) And a quart was less than $35 at the time. Did the entire sled with a quart, it gets reduced by 20% I believe. The stripe is plain old black rustoleum, thinned appropriately and a gloss hardener added. However the sled has been ridden and the flexing and vibrations from the thumping single have caused 90 pct of the spidercracks to re appear. I don't have a close up. Unfotunately there are some areas of the chassis where I really need to do some touch up- it's bleeding out some rust! My storage situation is not the best, this machine and two others sit out on a deck covered up and 450 miles from me. I try to keep them hosed down with WD40, as when I go up to my inlaws I pull off the covers and it's like it's raining under there. I want to put up one of those heavy duty, quonset hut type tents up there, then put them inside on pallets. Buuuuuuut it's my inlaws place, they are gracious enough to let me keep them on the deck, but there isn't a flat 12x20 spot on that property and frankly, if I put one up somebody would park something immobile like a fifth wheel horse trailer or a immobile car on blocks right in front of the opening. But beggars can't be choosers, right? At least I can have a couple sleds stored strategically so when it does snow up at at the in laws in south west VA I can rip the cord and ride, plus mom in law doesn't care if I take some rips on the grass Olympic, you can always hang that hood on the man cave wall, and finding another "patina" hood in somewhat better shape can happen if you keep hitting up the swap meets- something a guy like me stuck down in Georgia can't do!

Damn Eric, what are you dooing refinishing cabs?! Were you depressed? or maybe in recovery? That sled does look great though. Shame you chose poorly for a filler. Doo it right or doo it over over over. No matter, grab the winter coat, the gas can, the ukulele, and head for the hills of West Virginia.

Joe Oly, LOL I refinished boats and re painted a couple cars before I ever touched a sled project. PS- my sleds are in Western VIR - JINYA, not to be confused with a completely different state named "West Virginia" which is technically north east of where mine are.

Olyman I thought of putting a piece of plexiglass on it and then I could watch the track go around . I wasn't planning on cutting out the square tube in the back but it was rusted pretty good from salt or the battery acid over the years.

Ha! that would be pretty neat to see but likely not the best idea. That's pretty common with a battery back there especially. I'm certain that you will have no problem dealing with the metal if you've already gotten this far. In no time it will be looking like Eric's 69 bombshell

I tried out my new little spot sand blaster tonight so I can weld in my top plate supposed to be nice and sunny tomorrow and I can get it all prepped when I get the plate. Looks like it would work really good for small little areas would definitely not do the whole tunnel like that.

Olyman I have one of those pot style sandblasters, and I used it for the nooks and crannies I couldn't get in to as my 120 volt 30 gal compressor just can't provide enough air to use it. I used wire wheels on the grinder and flap discs to get the most of it, then used OSPHO product to neutralize the rust pits I couldn't get at. I have a '67 chassis I just had sandblasted, but I was having a steel porch glider and a couple other things done at the same time. He charged me $400 for all of it at $100 per and picked it up/dropped it off and he is 30 minutes away, so I figured it cost me about $100 to have that tub blasted. LOL I started out pop riveting and bondo-ing on my rusty "hot rods" as an acne complected teen in MN, and I'm sure I'm not the only one here that had primer under the fingernails in high school.

Ericr I just got it to do little things and see how it worked harbor freight cheapy. My biggest problem the autobody shops won't touch them because supposedly there big sandblasters would warp the tunnel from heat . That is kind of why I haven't done anything with my 370 yet so this 320 I was going to sandblast it myself and see how it turned out, I don't know if they just didn't want to monkey with it or what but two shops told me that.

Olympic- I found someone on my local Facebook "marketplace" advertising they did mobile dustless blasting. Just might be the area you live in. Try calling shops that specialize in restoration of cars, you'll find a place that does media blasting, or bite the bullet and buy a big air compressor.

Ericr I do have a big air compressor and had this sandblaster that I bought at an auction for $5 years ago and tried it out on a steel truck rim but had this stupid turn valve to shut it off and it didn't last long. So when I was at harbor freight I saw this dead man nozzle figured I'd try it on and it didn't do to bad would of got more done but my face shield kept fogging up so it was tough to see what I was doing. Found some more holes to fill in.

I don't know if this idea will appeal to you guys, but you could chemically strip the chassis first. That would remove most of the paint. Not a painless job but none of this is. Then follow up with a much easier sand blast job. I've taken this approach with a '71 Valmont chassis. Used Sterling brand 5F5 stripper. The only yellow left is nooks, crannies, and pits. A light bright orange surface rust took hold very quickly, to be expected. It will be delivered to Bill, the sand blast guy, for the final clean.
