Hey guys, have some issues with my 1970 335..... didn’t ride it much the last few years. I rebuilt the carb and like always with this motor it starts almost always in 2 poles..... ones it seems to warm up it starts bogging then shuts off. Usually it will start right back up immediately but then the same thing. Any ideas ? Or places to start ?

Can you see bubbles in the gas line? Maybe the return line fitting is plugged? Or the filter is starving it of gas? It sounds like its struggling to maintain gas flow. Do you have to choke it afterwards to re-start it?

Were you able to test the pop-off pressure of the carb's inlet needle/spring? Is the gas tank venting OK? When my 72 Nordic was doing the same sort of thing, new condensers fixed it. But,... my Nordic would not start right back up,...it had to cool down for 15 - 20 minutes. What type of fuel filter are you using? Be careful of the cheap screw-on versions. The o-rings get hard pretty soon after being put into service then they loose sealing capability.

Thanks for the ideas..... I am going to go grab a new screw on fuel filter and start with that see what that does..... I had added a inline fuel filter also. Maybe that’s my problem.... I plan on messing with it today..... oh and I don’t have anything to test the pop of pressure.... in the past I have ended up lucky I guess. Might need to invest in one.

What kind of fuel line are you using? Aside from the crazy scarcity of warth in Texas and skidoo parts, I have found that only Tygon retains some flexibility and will last without cracking after a couple years. You should be able to watch the return line to the tank purge itself of bubbles. My personal experience with coils on other machines is that when they are operating warm, they act up when its time for a replacement but sounds more like a fuel issue.

Ok guys, turned out to be a simple fix. I put a new screw on fuel filter, but that was not the problem. I am running a old jerry can on the back for the fuel tank. I had put a inline fuel filter coming off the lines on the back of the sled, I removed the inline filter and problem solved.... basically I think there was such a long pull to the fuel tank and it did not have a strong enough pump to keep the inline filter full of gas.... ether way it seems to be fixed. I road it around the house for a little over a mile with no issues. I will need to bring it somewhere else to really test it on a longer ride.... thanks for the help !

Ah ha! Glad to hear it was something simple. I ran in to a similar issue on my '68, I found it had a pinhole in the tank suction tube part way up and unless the tank was over half full it ran out of gas. I have also had those screw on filters on the bottom of the carb come loose. I buy them by the handful now. Normally if they start getting dirty, you will lose power on top first. Here's a short video I made last year pointing a few things out. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BFUxZ_Ubnc
