The tach on my 71 640 tnt doesn't move up much past 1000 rpm, so I would like to find one that works. NOS is good too. Thanks in advance.

Hi Vince, I think I have one that's still mounted in a spare 72 Nordic console up on a shelf. Let me know if you want me to look for it. Shipping cost to CA might be a little obscene though. I think the speedo is there also.

Hey thanks Mark, ya if you are out there walking past it shoot me a pic or two. I still haven't done anything about the speedo cable either. Lock down here makes it more of a pain to say the least. Thanks again.

Well Vince, I took a look yesterday for that tach and was surprised on a couple of fronts. First, I could not locate that dash assembly. I have to say that is confusing to me but I must have sold it on Ebay a long while ago after I parted that rotted Nordic I once had. Sorry, I'll probably take another quick look today just to be sure, Second, I came across a few things for a Nordic that I totally forgot I had. Two spare tracks, bogie assemblies, handlebars, tie rods and ends, console, gas tank, front and rear bumper, etc. Oh, and remember a while ago early in 2020 when I was searching and asking for a battery tray? Well I found one of those too!! Golly, I guess I've officially graduated to vintage sled packrat. Maybe I'll make a list of what I have.

Too funny and no worries at all! There is a wrecker not that far from me here. Will have to wait until I can visit him again. Thanks again Mark.

Hi olyman,
Hey, I know this is an old thread, but was wondering if you ever found a different tach? Was curious, if you tried monitoring it, with the headlight on. I put that Westach tachometer on my Nordic, and if I leave the loads off, it tends to only hover around 1000 rpm as well. When I turn the headlight on, it seems to be more responsive, albeit I don't know still how accurate. Maybe one day I'll get one of those o-scope kits for my iPad and check out voltage level/waveform and see if I can figure out why it does that. In my case not worried about it--I put it in just for the fun of it.

Hey Eric, Na no luck yet finding anything but haven't really dug too deep either. It could be something odd like the wiring or what-not but it's still original on this one. Again doesn't mean it's right. I have had these old tachs do the same thing in the past though, and after replacing them find that it was indeed the tach. They are probably fixable if you go to the trouble of peeling the back of the metal bezel off to open them up and search for a bad component. I've done that several times with an old 1970 Westach style (relay tach) with success. I had to replace a zener and two big resistors, and it was obvious they were bad because those were burnt from hooking the tach up wrong.
In the end I think the 71/72 style SHOULD be easy enough to source so I don't have to do that again - it's very tedious.
Oh and the light going on/off doesn't seem to affect this one.
Hope that helps
