This is my first post to this forum. I purchased '69 what I assumed to be an olympic earlier this year. Once I started working on it, I noticed the serial number starts with 7041 which would make it a 1970 TNT 292 S. It has a 335 engine in it however. I guess it has been swapped. At any rate, I am changing the sprockets and cannot remove the end bearing housing on the front drive axle. It has that threaded pipe section welded to the middle of it, which I understand is for a speedometer (long gone), but I assume it should still ideally just slide off of the bearing. So far, penetrating oil, heat, various puller arrangements and pry bars have been unable to budge it. The entire assembly spins well on the shaft, so I assume it is just the outer bearing to housing that is tight. I expect I may have to ruin it to get it off. If so, are these housings available? Could I fashion one from the extra rear hub assemblies I got with the machine. Thanks for any thoughts.

Welcome to the board, you've come to the right place. The bearing cups are notorious for being difficult to remove. You'll want to have the axle still secured inside the chaincase (cotter pin in place). I assume you've removed the oil seal from inside of the bearing cup, yes? You'll need two very long screw drivers, one on either side of the outer bearing cup, and start prying. Take care not to damage the tunnel. If you can get the cup to move even a little bit then switch from screw drivers to roll bars.
If you end up having to damage the cup to remove it, no worries. It's a common item that most of us have a box full of.
Good luck with it

Thanks. I will re-install on the chain case side and give it a go.

Hi Brad-
Yep, you have come to the right place! I assume you have removed the oil seal from the cup before trying to pull it? If not, do so. The suction of having the seal on will cause it to hold.
HOWEVER if it is all ready removed, and still won't budge, you may need to get a cutoff wheel on an air grinder etc and cut it off. I had one on an Elan stuck like that, rusted solid.
No issue finding other cups to replace it.

You guys have more patients than I had. Back in the days when I was tripping over late 60s early 70s Doo parts, when I had one of them that was stubborn I put a metal cutting blade in the sawzall and it didn`t take long to get er done.

Welcome to the board Brad. I have those cups if you happen to destroy it. Thats a nice sled you have - especially since the tag is still on it. Good luck with it.

Thanks for all the good advice. I had removed the seal, but reminders are always appreciated. In the end, I had to destroy it in order to save it. I hate for my first foray onto this forum to result in diminishing the precious stock-pile of parts, but I am now in need of a bearing housing. Anyone who knows where I can get one, please let me know. Much appreciated.

where are you located brad? I have several that are just round with no speedo attachment, and might have one with (not sure on that without looking). I'm in southern ontario.

That is great. I would prefer without the speedo attachment. I am in Winnipeg. Regarding the speedo attachment, I guess the chain oil was being lost through there, so the hollow shaft had been filled with about 3 inches of what appeared to be roofing tar. That probably explains why the bearing was seized to the housing. At any rate, no speedo attachment wanted. Let me know how you want to arrange paying and shipping. Thanks.

Good news. I managed to source a bearing housing locally. LAD Enterprises in East Selkirk is a wonderful resource. Thanks to all for your help. I am sure I will be back with more questions, and may get to the point where I actually have some answers. I am looking forward to it. Cheers and Merry Christmas.

That's good news Brad, I bet you'll make quick work of it now. Kind of cool that you've got a 70 TNT 292 there. It's a shame that you dont have the original motor in it. Just out of curiosity, what does the motor tag read? Just wondering since ya never know, it might (slim chance) be a 70 TNT 340 motor? Also, I'm sure I speak for us all when I say we love pictures! So hopefully you can post some of your sled.
Merry Xmas to you, and everyone else here!

Sled is looking good 👍. Thats a 335 hood too - maybe someone borrowed several pieces from one of those. What does the back of the chassis look like? Did it come with a seat?
