JUST TOOK A CLUTCH OFF A 640 NORDIC ENGINE. WEIGHTS/DOGS HAVE BOLTS ON THE END OF THEM. WHY? COLD YOU RUN THIS CLUTCH ON A SINGLE? JUST HAVE TO TAKE OFF THE BOLTS? YETI

Those are just acting as weights to make it shift at a lower RPM than ones without. I just looked at the 70-73 shop manual, and it shows those old clutches & different "flyweights". The 640s had rivets and 3 washers per flyweight, while smaller engines had all different arrays - but main thing is less weight. If bolts were ever OEM then it would be older than 73.. or done by someone back in the day. If they didn't drill the holes out bigger than the weights might all be the same weight. For sure you could use that on a single without the extra weight. It will work just fine, just use the spring from a single - though swapping whatever you have will prove what works best.
