I am about to order a magneto removal tool and replacement ignition parts for a 1968 299 and a 1972 335. As I have not opened these up yet, I don't know what I need as far as points and condensers. Can anyone point me to a resource or provide an answer? Thanks

Hey Grant, I wouldn't order any points/condensor unless you get Bosch. I will do anything I can to keep the original parts and file/clean the crap out of the points. If I just cant make that work then I will look to a parts engine. If that doesn't fly then think about buying Bosch. They are far superior to ANY points that you buy from anywhere else. They are all made in china and just don't last (weird, I know lol).
For tools on the singles you just need the female thread on outfit that has the bolt inside. I cant recall the thread size, but someone here should know. Handiest thing ever to prevent damage from 3 jaw pullers.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to order one of those tools from either RM stator or G.B. Distribution. I also learned a little more about the points and condenser. Assuming my source was correct I'll share it here in case anyone else wondered: as explained to me the early rotax singles used a two piece point set up, retained on a pin. The later ones, and the subsequent replacement kits, used a single piece unit wherein the the points and pin were a single unit. As for the condenser, I understand the old singles use the long condenser. If I have to order any replacement parts I will stick to the Bosch. I may already have what I need though I don't know if they will work on singles. I have a pair of "dead" twin type 343 and 294's stashed away. I justify keeping them in case I ever have to harvest ignition or starter parts some day. Will be interesting to see if there is any interchangeability with single ignitions or starters.
