Wondering what the mounting plate & bar orientation should be. I plopped the engine on the frame last night and noticed I must have put the plates together wrong. Best I can tell the big square plate is the right orientation, but the bottom bars and helper springs need to do a 180. The whole engine is about 1" too far to the right side of the sled...

It was the bottom two, front and back had to do a 180...

Hey Olyman, glad ya got it figured out. Sorry I was going to go out and snap a couple pictures of my 640 to see if it would help you, but I was work kept me sequestered in all day meetings so had next to no time for personal stuff. Work, eat, sleep, repeat. I don't want to wish my life away, but am really looking forward to retiring someday. Might take a while longer with the current market conditions, Ugh!

All good - I know what that's like all too well! I guessed it right - the belt seems to line up pretty close now. I hope I can try to fire it up for the first time this weekend. Has some stupid compression.. I thought the last 440 I rebuilt had lots.. 🤪

I know the 640 in my Nordic is not as much of a "bad boy" as the 640 that olyman is playing with, but it is still quite a workout to pull it over. Thankfully my electric start works flawlessly!

Hell no Bones! I'm thinking that the tnt will BE the "gym". I know carving up some trails with the 70 is a workout all by itself!
We'll have to see how much different the tnt is from any other 640. Though this will be the first one I've ever heard / seen / pulled over in person, so I don't have much to gauge against.

Well I got it running this aft and am very pleased with how it runs. Had to prime it by pulling it over with the plugs out which filled up the carb with gas. Shot some into the plug holes and it fired on the first thump. Few more tugs and it was running... Bit of tweaking and 4 (used) plugs later it ran far better than I expected. Its got me excited about finishing the rig. Should be ready to rip when the tulips are in full bloom.

Olyman, great news that she's alive! Were the plugs bad to start with or did they foul on you during the tweaking? What plugs are you running? I think I'm running A8s in my 640. Any chance of seeing a few pics? Tulips??? Don't get me started on how short this season has been. The Daffodils are poking up all over my flower beds. Ugh!

Ya I was just starting with 'whatever' plugs that i had laying around. And the Mag side fouled as soon as it started up and popped a few times. I am also going to run 8's. In the words of a wise old-doo timer 'Ask and ye shall receive'... even though this is tagged as a slider sled I will be running bogies. I will eventually clean up the sliders, but with the winters vs where I live its not worth running them. Also went with a newer style fuel pickup as I don't trust the black plastic ones. I have a video of my starting it up without a clutch on it. Just did that for the video. I was going to use a comet duster for this thing but I just don't think its going to work for it. I have a new powerbloc in the works... Anyhow I will post the vid once I get it uploaded... Eesh - flowers are nice in MAY!

I know you shouldn't run without a clutch but didn't really have a good one that will stay on yet. When I first fired it up the clutch kept on spinning LOOOOONG after I shut it off - Lucky it didn't take off and visit the neighbors lol

That's what PLASTIC belt guards are for Shards in your knee. EXACTLY! What could ever go wrong with a 49 year old piece of thin plastic between your knee and a metal tornado out of control?? When was plastic EVER a good idea?
