I've got a new sled on the way!!! I am rescuing a Mirage II 377 with points and electric start. It is virtually complete. I should be getting it in a week or so. I was given a few trinkets last night, check it out....

Dando, that's awesome. Looking forward to seeing pics of the new sled. And sweet key chain!! That sled should be the twin sister to my 81 Citation 4500e. Great sled, great motor, so fun to ride still. It's always one of my first go to sleds in my fleet at the beginning of the season. If you have any questions just post them up, hopefully I can help you out. With the exception of my track replacement, my sled is pretty much all original with an untouched motor with about 3000 miles on it.

So I'm diving right into this thing. I have my work cut out for me!!! It looks relatively intact, except for all the metal missing in the bellypan!!! Has anyone ever seen one of these for real? Are the skiis blue too? This thing had a paint job in its prevous life so it is hard to tell what is original. The blue is so dark that it looks black in most pics on the web.

Ok. After dooing a little research and looking at the weathered parts that I have, I have concluded that everything is supposed to be blue. The gas tank, the seat cover, the skiis, and the bellypan. The gas tank is now a faded white/grey colour. I already ordered a seat cover from ebay and its black. I am not sure if I should just roll with it and make the body black as well. Decisions, decisions......
I also had another 377 kicking around that I got for free because it had a bad crank. I am pretty sure I will be converting the motoski 377 to cdi using parts from the bad crank motor. But first I need to fix that belly pan. I'm about halfway there....I'll post more pics when the patching is complete.

Right on! Looking like a good project there! The metal on those era of sleds were thin (and light), and I think the paint was powder coated on. Regardless when it flexed it would often let moisture in under the paint and then the brown magic starts. And you are correct wit the blue - everything that would be black on a ski-doo was dark blue on a MS. Converting to black is much easier and still looks really good - but entirely whatever works for you. Track looks good from that last pic!

That Moto Ski Blue is a bit of a challenge to readily match. I've seen numerous over the years where people have used TremClad/rustoleum blue. A bit too bright but looks better than rusty brown! I remember chatting with someone who had redone one and I asked how he matched his colours as well as they were (still not perfect, but close) and he claimed to have simply mixed the tremcald blue with a little bit of black. Perhaps a paint dealer could scan and mix it up. I think DDub was marketing moto ski blue too.

I've got the black seat cover, and I am pretty sure I will just go with black on the rest of the sled. No full restore here, I just want to get it back on the trails.
Has anyone ever changed the brake lever on one of these early 80's sleds? Mine is broken and will need to be replaced. Looking at the parts diagram it says there is a pin and a push nut. Can I reuse these parts or do I need new ones?

I got to do a little more work on the moto ski. Here is a pic of the damage removed I've got a piece of plate in place now. It's a little heavier steel than the original. It is tacked on, I still need to get it sealed up, then painted. I also have just about all the parts I need to get it going, including a conversion to cdi. This is what I have gathered so far..... Stator Coil Flywheel CDI Brake Lever Carbide Runners Carb boot Blanks for the gauge hole in the dash Fuel Pump Rebuild Kit Fuel Tank Grommet Primer I was also able to get the parts manual for this machine from the museum.....if anyone wants a copy of the .pdf, let me know.... I am hoping to beat Santa Claus and have this running before Christmas, but I've got a lot of other stuff on the go right now.....

Go blue, go blue. You wont be sorry. The exact shade doesn't matter. The overall effect will be killer. Skis, springs, and chassis blue, seat black, perfect counterpoint. We're too old to be splicing hairs. Don't remember what I used but I think it might have been "Ford Blue" The blue/orange color scheme is a winner. Make it happen brother, damn the shades

Right on brother, you're gonna love the finished product. That Yamaha Bravo of mine was not born blue and orange but sure did take to it well. I am dazzled every time I walk into the shop and lay my eyes on that sled. I'm guessing you will be likewise.

OK....so it's 2 years later....I'm finally spending some time on the moto ski. I am looking for one of these It is a rubber bump stop from the suspension. I think it was used all the way up to 2005 on the tundras. the part numbers I found are 50390576 and 570032900. If anyone knows where to find one or what I could use for a replacement please let me know. Thanks

The rubber stops have been on my swap meet list for a long time and have been very hard to find. Resorted to using something similar to these on my 70 sliders. Dimensions are on the site. Won't match the oem profile.
